Who makes this, and why

Offline Captions is built by Gaurav Jindal, an independent software developer. It started from one complaint that kept coming up in creator communities in 2026: CapCut moved auto captions behind a $179.99-a-year subscription, and most people only wanted the captions.

What we believe

Offline

Your footage is yours

Speech models are now good enough to run on a laptop. There's no reason to upload a video just to put words on it.

One-time

Software you own

Captions cost us nothing per video once the model is on your machine, so we don't charge you per video or per month.

Honest

Comparisons with sources

Every competitor fact on this site links to the vendor's own page and says when we checked it. If something's out of date, tell us and we'll fix it.

How it's built

English transcription uses NVIDIA's open Parakeet-TDT model; Hinglish combines an open Whisper-Hinglish model with an Indian-language model for word timing; captions are rendered with libass and FFmpeg and bundled open-licence fonts. All of it runs locally. Accuracy is measured on public test sets and published on the accuracy page, including what we haven't proven yet.
