Comparison · checked Oct 2026Offline Captions vs CapCut Pro for auto captions
Short answer: CapCut is a full video editor and its auto captions now need Pro, at $19.99 a month or $179.99 a year. If captions are what you're paying for, Offline Captions does that one job on your own computer for $39 once ($29 founding pre-order). If you use CapCut's effects, templates and timeline every day, Pro can still be worth it.
Which one should you pick?
- You mainly need animated word-by-word captions on talking videos.
- You'd rather pay once than every month.
- Your footage shouldn't leave your computer.
- You want a dictionary that remembers names and brand words.
- You edit the whole video in CapCut: cuts, effects, templates, music.
- You use its other AI tools (background removal, motion tracking, AI video).
- You edit mostly on your phone. We're desktop only.
- You need 1 TB of cloud storage or team features.
Plenty of people will do both: edit in CapCut Standard or another editor, and caption in Offline Captions.

FAQ
Are CapCut auto captions free in 2026?
No. CapCut's own Standard vs Pro guide says the auto caption generator is exclusive to Pro users. CapCut Pro is listed at $19.99 a month or $179.99 a year (checked Oct 2026; prices vary by region and platform).
What is a cheaper alternative to CapCut Pro for captions?
If you only need animated auto captions, Offline Captions is a one-time $39 desktop app ($29 founding pre-order) for Mac and Windows with unlimited videos. Over one year that is $140.99 less than CapCut Pro's $179.99 yearly plan, and the gap grows every year you keep using it.
Is Offline Captions more accurate than CapCut?
We don't know yet, so we don't claim it. Our English engine (NVIDIA Parakeet) scored a 7.6% word error rate on our own 28-clip benchmark, versus 9.6% for Whisper-small, but a same-clip test against CapCut is still pending.
Does CapCut upload my video to transcribe it?
CapCut's public pricing and help pages we checked don't say where auto-caption transcription runs. Offline Captions transcribes on your own computer and works with no internet connection.
