Use case · privacy-sensitive workCaptions for footage that can't be uploaded
Most caption tools upload your video, or at least its audio, to a server. Offline Captions doesn't. Speech recognition runs on your own Mac or Windows computer and the app works with your Wi-Fi off. For agencies under NDA, product teams before a launch, and clinics or therapists making promos, that's the whole point.
Where other tools send your media

|---|---|---|
| Offline Captions | ✓ | Nothing. Works offline. |
| AutoSubtitles | The audio track ("sent for AI transcription and deleted immediately after") | |
| Submagic, OpusClip | The video (web apps) | |
| Descript | Projects live in Descript's cloud | |
| CapCut | Where transcription runs isn't listed on CapCut's pricing pages |

Check it yourself
Turn off Wi-Fi, open the app, caption a clip. It works. That's a better guarantee than any privacy policy. (One-time setup, like licence activation, needs a connection; captioning doesn't.)
FAQ
Is there a caption app that doesn't upload my video?
Yes. Offline Captions transcribes speech and burns in captions on your own computer. Videos and audio are never uploaded, and it works without an internet connection.
Can I use offline captions for NDA client work?
That's a main reason people choose Offline Captions: the footage never leaves your machine. Check your own contract terms, but there is no third-party processor involved in captioning.
