Comparison · checked Oct 2026Offline Captions vs Submagic
Short answer: Submagic is a cloud editing suite for short videos, billed monthly with video credits. Offline Captions does one thing, animated captions, on your own computer, with no credits and no video-length cap, for $39 once. If you want B-roll, auto-zooms and publishing in one place, Submagic offers more; if you want captions on every video without counting, we're the cheaper path.
Which one should you pick?
- You post more than 15 videos a month, or videos longer than 2 minutes.
- You want a custom dictionary without a $69/month plan.
- Your footage shouldn't be uploaded.
- You'd rather pay once.
- You want B-roll, auto-zooms, sound effects and transitions done for you.
- You turn long videos into clips (Magic Clips).
- You publish to social accounts from the same tool.
- Your team shares one workspace in the browser.

FAQ
How many videos can I caption with Submagic?
Submagic's pricing page lists 15 videos a month on Starter, 40 on Pro and up to 100 on Business, with maximum video lengths of 2, 5 and 30 minutes (checked Oct 2026). Offline Captions has no video or length limit because it runs on your computer.
Is there a Submagic alternative without credits?
Yes. Offline Captions is a one-time $39 desktop app ($29 founding pre-order) that captions unlimited videos offline. It focuses on animated captions; it doesn't do Submagic's B-roll, auto-zooms, AI clipping or social publishing.
Which Submagic plan has a custom dictionary?
Submagic lists custom vocabulary on its Business plan ($69 a month, or $41 a month billed yearly). In Offline Captions the personal dictionary is included and learns from your corrections.
